Hey, all you beautiful, badass brides! My name is Emily, and I am a Floravere stylist at our NYC Flagship Store. Shopping for wedding gowns can be overwhelming to start, so I’m here to help you navigate the sea of new arrival silhouettes- particularly mermaid gowns.
So, what is it that makes up mermaid wedding dresses? This shape is fitted through the bodice all the way through the mid-thigh or just above the knee, finishing with a flare. I truly love this shape on ALL body types! It does an amazing job of celebrating femininity, hugging curves in the best way, however big or small. This shape is a great starting point for showing your personal style and making your own wedding statement.
I love the J. Didion bridal dress for the big day if you're going for a bohemian or rustic vibe! This gown incorporates one of my favorite fabrics: power mesh. Get ready to kiss uncomfortable shapewear goodbye because power mesh smooths and shapes while maintaining a breathable, movable stretch- the comfort of athleisure in the beauty of a wedding gown (which, honestly, isn’t that the marriage we’ve all been waiting for?). A soft, ivory tulle overlay is bedecked in a crocheted ivory lace peppered with minimal metallic threading, giving an updated and refreshed look to classic lace. And there's no question that the perfectly crafted v-neck makes this mermaid style wedding dress the perfect bridal gown for the perfect wedding day. She can be made with an ivory underlay for a more traditional vibe or a warm champagne tone to help the stunning lace details pop.
Another gown I’m personally obsessed with is the F. Nightingale. This gown features metallic feather applique placed just so to give extra definition at the waistline and flare back out, tapering down the hips. At first glance, it might look beaded or sequins, or look like a lace mermaid wedding dress, but the details are so much more than that. Paired with a luxurious cathedral train, your double hourglass figure in this dazzling number is no joke! The Nightingale is made with a lightweight stretch crepe so you can have all the drama and still comfortably dance your reception away. This gown’s simplicity and feathery flair make for some uniquely magical Old Hollywood wedding glam!
For my more simplistic gals, I love the new K. Hudson gown! This gown is a lightweight 4-ply silk crepe, and, seriously, is about as light as a feather. She blends traditional, luxurious silk crepe with a “vintage” 90s square neckline for a totally refreshed version of timeless. A low crisscrossed back balances a more modest neckline for a tastefully sexy vibe. I personally love pairing this gown with our Peony Applique Cathedral veil for a soft touch of romance. Part of what I love about more simple gowns is having the opportunity to personalize your wedding look with accessories. From a fun veil to Grandma’s heirloom necklace to a bright blue shoe, we can’t wait to help you find the perfect look for you!
